Tank war

This game has three main aspects:

a. To shoot down your opponents' tank
b. Collect extra life points
c. Move around and dodge missiles. this is important because the tanks move really slow and the missiles at a good speed. And adding to that there are land missiles placed on the war-field waiting for you to step on them.

The game starts with each player having 5 life points. And after a death your tank will be relocated to a new random location on the war-field. Download and enjoy the game. Am all ears for bug reporting.

Watch out for more "my flash games" in this section.

Paintings

Here are few of my paintings. I made them during my school days. Those were the days when such good things happened. Now i don't paint anymore. But i wish to go back to them once more.

Helicopter crash

This game is a very popular one. This was one of the initial games that i wrote since it was a simple game. U are in a helicopter and amidst "hard-clouds". Now dont ask me what that means. These are just the obstacles on the way. click and hold to move high or release the mouse button to fall-free. As simple as that. Enjoy your ride.

Bumper car

This game is inspired by the electric bumper cars that one can find in theme parks. Its abt bumping on to other ppl cars. Its like the best fun one can have with his/her friends. In the game you are given a life of 100 points. Try to hit the opponent with as much speed as possible. The more ur speed, the more damage ur opponent suffers, and ofCourse the more damage to u as well, but the damage suffered by ur opponent is more. so the basic idea of the game is to "Kill before u are killed". Oh i forgot to mention that there are concrete walls surrounding the arena. so watch out before you decide to step on the gas. "Kill him before u kill yourself". And there is a random appearance of a "damage-repair" icon. so watch out for that and take it before to opponent takes it. i am uploading the latest version that i have completed after removing a lot of bugs. But i must say, that i often loose at this game to one of friend. Like i said for source code u can mail me. Happy gaming.

My Flash games

I like coding small games. Its fun playing a game that you created. Three things that i found are a challenge to make a good game are:
a. making the physics look decent
b. creating a reasonable AI and
c. keeping the gamer interested in the game, though the game might be simple.

I use Macromedia flash. I will try to upload all the games that i have made. To ask for the source code, dont hesitate to mail me. Please note that i am not a serious programmer. I do it for fun. So dont be surprised if u come across some bugs. Do let me know if there are any. Happy gaming.

Indian Govt to setup 8 new IITs in one shot ?!!?

The Indian central govt. has announced that it has plans of setting up 8 new IITs at the same time in various parts of the country. Where are we going?! Whats wrong with the govt.?
The reason being stated is to uplift the Higher education standards.. This is utter ridiculous. This would result in total damage to the present IIT standards. It goes very well with the saying "Too many cooks spoil the broth". IIT is a place where not everybody gets to study. Setting up another IIT is in itself a bad idea. That too 8 at the same time is like a perfect plan to murder the engineering students' standards in India. Instead of doing this, the govt should take steps which would further improve the present IIT standards like the infrastucture, more industry interaction,..etc.

This is what happens when govt. interferes with the education system. One similar incident is the removal of TNPCEE (Tamilnadu professional course entrance examination) some two years back by the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu. The CM took this step without understanding its impact on the system. This led to many students tied for the same spot. So to resolve this they had to take Age, Caste and Sex into consideration. This is rubbish. Access to quality education should be based only on MERIT and nothing else, no matter what the financial status of the student is. If the govt is really so bothered abt that, then let them help such students financially. Nobody stops them form doing that.
TNPCEE was in a sense a better scale to gauge the student's understanding of the subject unlike the 12th public exams that merely require one to memorize stuff from the book and reproduce it. TNPCEE forced the students to take a "little" step forward in the direction of thinking.
i guess i strayed away from IITs to TNPCEE.
With the increasing population it might be justified to increase the number of IIT seats by a small figure. But this should happen over time not all of a sudden.

Nokia to come up with a full-touchscreen phone - tube

Nokia has announced the launch of a full touch screen handset similar to iPhone called "tube". It was actually shown in the latest Batman movie - The Dark Knight, a scene where the Batman tilts the phone and the screen tilts (accelerometer). They hope to launch by the end of this year(2008). Looks like they have planned to launch a bunch of touchscreen phones targeting a range of prices. If they manage to do it at a reasonable price then the apple iPhone will take a huge hit. Similarly Samsung has also plans to launch a similar model at a reasonable price.

Apple unfair to indian market

So here we are.. finally the much awaited iPhone is to be launched in INDIA tomorrow. Just like everyone i was also excited to get my hands on an iPhone. But i am very much disappointed after airtel and vodafone announced their iPhone prices.

31K for an 8Gb model and 36K for a 16Gb model. It strange to know that the same iPhone is $199 in US which comes to around Rs.8600/- only. Adding to the list of negatives, There is no 3G in India. US citizens enjoy the speed of 3G but still they pay less!! The service provider situation is no different from US. The iPhone we are going to get in India is also a locked one. U cannot use anyother SIM other than airtel's on ur airtel-iPhone, its locked to the service provider (God knows for how long.. they haven't revealed it yet).

The SMS interface adds to the woes of the iPhone in the Indian market. we people are used to texting.. so getting used to an on-screen keypad is going to take sometime. We indians are so used to Bluetooth file sharing between phones. But sadly the iPhone doesnt have this feature in it!! So putting it all together, we Indians are not going to use/exploit all the features on the iPhone.. Then why such a high price?

It's a known fact that SPs in India cannot benefit from value added services like SPs in US.. but still SP's in India hope to get revenue from value added services by locking the iPhone to their SIM. The hardware cost of iPhone comes to Rs.22K.. So an unlocked iPhone should not cost you more than 25K.. Hope they realize this with time and the prices are slashed soon.
